Hundreds of learners, some with disabilities, will now benefit from an improved learning environment courtesy of a project supported by LG Electronics in partnership with non-profit Habitat for Humanity Kenya (HFH Kenya).

The initiative aims to improve learning infrastructure, water, sanitation and hygiene for 225 hearing-impaired children at the Machakos School for the Deaf and 400 Early Childhood Development (ECD) learners at Kyumbi Primary School.

LG Electronics in partnership with Habitat for Humanity (HFH) have today unveiled social impact initiatives in Laikipia county set to benefit over 25,000 residents of Mbombo and Rumuruti regions.

Valued at KES 10.3 million, the initiatives include product donations and construction of classrooms and ablution blocks at Mbombo Primary School and furnishing of the school’s classroom desks and tables. Atleast 60 LG products such as refrigerators, washers, water purifiers, air conditioners, Televisions and microwaves were donated to the community institutions. This move will benefit 3,683 primary and secondary school pupils, and over 22,000 residents annually treated at Olmoran and Maundu Meri Dispensary

Over 600 students including 225 children with hearing impairments are now using new school facilities donated by LG Electronics in support of equal learning opportunities in Kenya.

The facilities include a new library, ablution wing and borehole system at Machakos School for the Deaf, and 2 new ECD classrooms, kitchen block and latrines at Kyumbi School in Mavoko constituency, all built by LG in conjunction with Habitat for Humanity at a total cost of Kshs 8.9M.

Speaking at the handing ceremony today, LG Electronics East Africa Managing Director Sa Nyoung Kim said the project was geared to promoting equal learning opportunities for children mostly from poor,and under-privileged communities.

The borehole was a huge relief because of the frequent water shortages experienced in Juba at that time. Total support was USD 12,000 .

LG-KOICA Hope TVET had a 4th graduation in worldwide pandemic situation. Certificate of Competency pass rate is marked at 91.2% for the graduates. LG-KOICA Hope TVET became the only precedent that is sponsored by KOICA under IBS (Inclusive Business Solution) for longest period based on its great academic achievement (2013~2024). Upon the direction of Federal TVET Agency, the school re-opened face-to-face class with high level of COVID-19 prevention with scenario plan.

As COVID-19 situation became ecumenical pandemic in 2020, LG-KOICA Hope TVET handle the prevention swiftly.

It closed down face-to-face class for 9 month since first COVID-19 confirmed case has been found in March, 2020.

The college has developed online E-Platform that is used for the training during non-face-to-face class. it has been benchmarked and introduced to other schools under Federal TVET Agency.

In 2020, LG Electronics and International Vaccine Institute entered the MOU for the second batch of cholera vaccination project in Ethiopia. LG will support the vaccination of 40,000 beneficiaries under the implementation of International Vaccine Institute in areas which are vulnerable to waterborne diseases from 2H of 2021 for 3 years. After vaccination, the effectiveness of the vaccine will be evaluated. Also, epidemiological data of cholera and diarrhea incidence rate shall be collected.

Three social groups based in Nairobi, Kiambu and Kajiado counties respectively have emerged as the 2021 winners of the LG Electronics Ambassador Challenge that seeks to promote the growth and self-reliance of local communities.

The three, Ghetto Evolve from Nairobi, The Eagles from Limuru and Mpookua Primary school will each receive Ksh.1,000,000 (One million) which is the main prize that will go towards solving social issues in the communities which they reside.

Speaking during the announcement of the three, LG Electronics East Africa Managing director Sa Nyoung Kim said, “This challenge is part of LG's overarching vision that sees various aspects of society working together to achieve a better life for all. This being our second year running it successfully, we remain committed to executing social contribution activities that deliver sustainable growth to local communities as we empower everyone to live a better life.”

LG Ambassador: Social Impact Challenge aims to identify innovative and impactful community initiatives that respond to real problems in local communities, and supporting them financially to achieve the desired goals.

The idea behind the initiative came from a similar initiative by LG Electronics in Bangladesh that has so far benefited over 400 families by improving food security and tackling poverty.

With LG Ambassador Project, Kilimani Primary School, Buela Girls Empowerment in Kajiado, Limuru Soccer Academy in Kiambu will receive Ksh950,000 to catch and following their dreams.

As the second cycle of Hope village, LG Electronics has started supporting residential or house renovation and environment improvement to Korea War Veterans who has low incomes. This project will improve and renovate 27 houses, communal toilet, shower booth installation and drainage pipe line for the community for 3 years. This project also has included the establishment of ICT lab in the most destitute primary schools of the Addis Ababa.

The Global blood donation campaign orchestrated by LG Ethiopia office is held on November 21, 2017 at LG-KOICA Hope TVET College. We have collaborated with Ministry of Health and Ethiopia Red Cross Society.

The campaign managed to incorporate the business distributor (Metro) and the surrounding community both in the awareness creation and actual blood donation. A total of 94 people have donated blood on this date.

In celebration of World Environment Day, LG Electronics members and employees had a cleaning activity Lake Elementaita.

Lake Elementaia is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites under Kenya Lake System in the Great Rift Valley.

The lake  system is home to 13 globally threatened bird species and some of the highest bird diversities in the world. It is the single most important foraging site for the lesser flamingo anywhere, and a major nesting and breeding ground for great white pelicans.

LG Electronics will sponsor this year’s Sports Personality of the Month Award to a tune of Sh6.6million to Kenyan sportsmen and women.

The event, organized by Sports Journalists Association of Kenya (SJAK) will run for one-year, starting January through to December 2021. The award will fete the most outstanding Kenyan sportsmen and women for their achievements across diverse disciplines each month.

Winners for January and February were announced 23.03.2021 during the launch with tennis star Angela Okutoyi taking the January gong and Kenya Morans’ Tylor Okari Ongwae were feted as the February winner.
